Venice Carnival

In Christian cultures around the world, every year on Shrove Tuesday, the day before Ash Wednesday, they celebrate Carnival, letting out all the stops before the beginning of Lent. In Venice, locals and pilgrims dress up in costumes to parade and party.

Lech 2019

It wasn’t until relatively late in my ski career that I got around to skiing in Europe but, when I finally did, Lech quickly became my favorite spot. Staying at the Hotel Goldener Berg in the village of Oberlech, where the main street is a ski trail and you’re surrounded by spectacular vistas of the Austrian alps, is a rare and special treat.

Luang Prabang

The ancient spiritual capital of Laos, a UNESCO World Heritage site and home to many monasteries, is one of the most beautiful and “chill” places I’ve ever had the privilege of visiting—right on par with Assisi, Delphi and Machu Picchu. Our trips there featured a day-long cruise up the Mekong River to the Pakou Cave and back in time for sunset

Barcelona

Laid out languorously on the shores of the Balearic Sea in the western Mediterranean, the capital of Catalonia is a cultural center, showcase of centuries of beautiful architecture, foodie paradise and home to one of the world’s best soccer clubs—giving yours truly loads of good reasons to stop by.

Oregon

Oregon has more than its share of natural beauty, from towering snow-capped peaks, volcanoes and waterfalls to craggy coastlines and mossy forests. These shots are from a summer trip I took about eight years ago, visiting Portland, Mt Hood, the Columbia River Valley, Mt St Helens and the coast around Cannon Beach.

Bai Tu Long

Bai Tu Long Bay is in the northeastern part of the UNESCO World Heritage site Halong Bay, located about 100 miles east of Hanoi. We took a two-night private junk tour to view the gorgeous otherworldly scenery of its 50-odd islands, which are limestone karst formations jutting up from pristine waters--in the local mythology said to be the eggs of a giant dragon that swooped down from the sky in the ancient past.
